Denver's debut Top 10 hit as a solo artist after a short career performing in small folk groups comprised of Take Me Home Country Roads composed by Bill Danoff. Danoff composed the track in the spirit of Johnny Cash, but Denver discovered the song's early versions and was aware that it would become one of the Top 10 hits.
